RESPECT OTHERS' RIGHTS AND DO JUSTICE |

Muslims-Hindus enmity in the Subcontinent is not a new phenomenon; rather it is has been in existence for a long time and escalated when British snatched ruling power from Muslims; this legacy continued even after independence. Criticizing India has become a symbol of patriotism and sign of loyalty in Pakistan. Historically, we blame Hindus and India for all mistakes and blunders that Muslims and their leadership have committed themselves.
All criticism on India is not genuine and heavily influenced by vested interests and personal agenda. Most of Pakistani historians blame Hindus’ conspiracies for helping British to conquer subcontinent instead of blaming Mughal rulers’ incapability. It is common to blame Hindus for our economic depressive condition under British rule without acknowledging the fact that Hindus became preferred partners of British because they had learnt English language; and Muslims made it a sin. Without denying Hindus’ political conspiracies against Muslims, we should not ignore that Muslims’ political, social and economic decline is result of our own mistakes and blunders. Being considering them our number one enemy, our historian should not blame Hindus for manipulating the situation at the time of independence and receiving larger pie of the cake; rather, we should concentrate more on analyzing mistakes that we did during the movement of independence and at the time of partition. The fact is that we have never admitted our mistakes and used India and Hindus as scapegoats for our own blunders.
The short reference is made to the Subcontinent history to indicate that nations never develop without analyzing their own actions, improving their own abilities, and national character. Many people criticize India or raise hatred on the name of patriotism or nationalism to promote their personal agenda. Indeed, the fact is whosoever got a chance to make money; he/she has traveled to India without much hesitation; and the best example is our showbiz celebrities. It is also an undeniable fact that a person becomes a celebrity overnight if he/she finds an opportunity to work in India, Zeba Bakhtiar, Nazia Hassan are best examples of this case. We follow footsteps of India but reluctant to accept. Except democracy (since following their democratic principle does not serve interests of those who criticized India the most), we copy them in all fields whether it is foreign policy, defense of the country, entertainment or science and technology. A few examples are sufficed to make a point. We did not think of making atom bomb until India tested it in 1974; we did not think of establishing private television channels until India took the initiative. We started to work in the field of IT when India reached the 2nd position in this field in the world. Similarly, we have now started to work finding investors for establishing ‘calling centers’ in Pakistan when India has already quite ahead in this field too. Keeping in view the above arguments, it may be correct to argue that our enmity with Hindus and India is a superficial, which is promoted by specific groups for their own vested interests. Our rulers and political elite used India as a scapegoat to hide their own mistakes and blunders.
Instead of showing envy to India’s progress, it is high time that we analyze and ponder on this question as to why some nations progress and some do not. None of the nation in the world can progress on the basis of emotional slogans without actions. Till today, we have hardly appreciated that mental faculties do not grow when freedom of speech and thoughts are restricted, either on the name of national security or religion. It is high time that qualified historians and social scientists come forward and analyze without prejudice our past and current actions so that we can make decision for future on their findings and analyses. We must understand that scientific analyses and reviews on events are neither dangerous to national security or nor threatens religion. It might be interested for the readers that social scientists theories are not conclusive but only tentative conclusions where they highlight different dimensions of the same phenomena to enhance insight about the issues so it is unwise to suspect their nationalism or patriotism. Unfortunately, what we have been doing in the past that we are suspecting and questioning researchers’ intentions and integrity whosoever has tried to highlight political shortcomings of our heroes of the past.
